LA PLAZA MAYOR - MADRID

La Plaza Mayor in Madrid is the center of tourism.  Can you find three different people that are making a living in the tourism buisness?

There is a saying in the city.  "Madrid siempre está de obras."  Can you find evidence of this in the video?

What was the role of the Plaza Mayor when it was first built?

TORTILLA ESPAÑOLA

Tortilla de patata is a traditonal dish in Spain.  It can be a simple dish with just eggs and potatoes or you can add your own twist with ham, spinach, or even caramelized onion.

¿Te apetece un pincho de tortilla?

GAZPACHO

Madrid can be extremly hot in the summer time.  This is one reason why gazpacho is such a popular summer time food.  A cold tomatoe, cucumber soup, many families enjoy it and ads for different brands are all over the TV.

How would you prepare your gazpacho?

LA GRAN VÍA - MADRID

La Gran Vía may be Madrid's busiest street. Filled with shops, restaurants, theaters, hotels, and much more.  But how do you ask for a bus ticket?  How would you ask directions to Plaza España or Principe Pío?

You're a passenger on this bus, what buisnesses do you see?

¡HOLA! ENCANTADO DE CONOCERTE...

Greetings in Spain look different than in the United States.  We are used to a hug, hand shake, or fist pump.  What about a 'kiss' on the cheek with someone you are meeting for the first time?!

Spaniards have less of a 'personal bubble' and while it looks like a kiss, you're really just touching cheeks and making a kiss sound.

UN CAFÉ - MADRID

Imagine your sitting at this cafe ordering lunch?  Will you get a menú del día? Or share a few raciones with friends?

Use the video as a short skit background for students to feel like they are really in Madrid.

Thank your camarero, but remember that tips are typically just a euro or two.

POEMA Y BAILE

Marina, who is part of the WiTeam dance team, shared a video with me of her group performing choreography by Sara Sánchez. The dance inspired Patty de Frutos who write a poem which is read over the music for the dance. What images do you see when you hear her words?

Watch and listen!

PARQUE RETIRO

El Parque del Buen Retiro is a popular place to relax in Madrid's center.  Covering 350 acres the park has various wooded and paved areas and even a pond!

What activities, in Spanish can you do in a park?  Or create a skit of friend's meeting up for a day of fútbol and sun.
