Idealista.com

Using real websites in activities is a great way to incorporate authentic materials and assess the interpretive standard. Studying the house? Or living in the city? There is a great website in Spain called idealista.com where students can search for apartments. Give them specifications like - must have elevator or air conditioning - plus a price and set them loose. I have my students print a copy of the listing they choose and answer a few questions in English about it. The exercise continues the next day with a presentational communication activity when they write a letter to a "Spaish friend" describing the apartment using vocabulary on rooms, furniture, and prepositions of place. The exercise can continue to interpersonal conversations about their new apartments. It's a real world situation they may even find themselves in one day! Go check out idealista for yourself!
